The only brighter stars in the universe are nothing more than self absorbed balls of gas. – Durien Flamestrike (Former Student)

History

Officially founded as Universal Scientific Academy, and one of the first generation “Star-League” class schools in 2125, the school’s charter year was almost cut short by its connection to the tragic events of the Mars’ failed terraforming attempts. Several of the lead researchers associated to the on-site team were advisers/distance learning based faculty and reference support staff.

The initial class offerings included broadcast lessons on planetary scale geo/environmental sculpting and supportive life-form planning, as well as (for the time) cutting edge study into stellar-engineering theory. They later expanded the topics to include various engineering and even some social science (one such case was another spectacular failure in the area of “mind control”). Today, the school has been re-branded under the UEE banner and topics range from advanced mathematics to spacial anomalies, to cooking (don’t ask).

The school has had a long a torrid journey over the centuries, falling into and out of favor based on which notable students make the holo’s (usually in a less than favorable light), but the one core truth of the university has always been upheld:

Science for the sake of Knowledge.

To some, this means freedom to research anything as long as it yields new knowledge, to others, a rallying cry for change, and to the those of darker intent, an idiom for study into far worse things than normally allowed in other institutions.

The school itself is more research lab than an actual school, as while there are classes available, they are presented in an “open” format and usually more to bring new researchers up to speed on a concept or line of research. For those looking for a degree, they are best served by more traditional centers of learning, but for those looking to make a mark on any specific area of study, you should look no further.

In addition to the normal application and background/resource checks required by UEE law, enrollment includes the following:
  • Standard NDA and waiver of personal safety (we’re all adults and the school is not here to protect you from your own stupidity)
  • A copy of the “Code of Conduct” which is most simply presented as don’t cheat, and if you do, don’t get caught
  • A legally binding agreement that the school is provided a percentage of any research grants, and current/future revenue, as a result from any research performed while a “student”.

Manifesto

The “school” is a loose collection of like minded researchers and explorers looking for the freedom to pursue their own agenda but still maintain a social network for support. We choose no sides, and drive no agenda beyond striving to add to the universal collection of knowledge. What you do on your own time (and it’s all your own time) is up to you.
