TransOrbital Navigation and Shipping, or TONS, is a freelance organization that was formed in the early days of humanity’s expansion into space. As humanity began to explore and colonize the stars, a growing need arose for skilled pilots, navigators, and engineers who could help keep the new frontier running smoothly. This need was especially acute for those who wanted to operate outside of the jurisdiction of the powerful and often corrupt corporations that dominated the new space age.

TONS was founded by a group of highly skilled individuals who saw the opportunity to fill this gap in the market. They were drawn together by a shared love of exploration and a desire to operate on their own terms, free from the restrictions and bureaucracy of the major corporations. The founders were a diverse group, but they all shared a passion for the challenge of operating in space.

The early days of TONS were challenging. They got an early start sending satellites and supplies beyond earths orbit with proprietary rockets but their expertise and resourcefulness quickly earned them a reputation as the go-to people for anyone looking to operate outside the established corporate space race. Eventually their rockets became obsolete when they collected a small fleet of the new RSI Zeus ships that had recently become commercially available and they quickly seized the opportunity to build a network of contacts throughout the Sol System, from miners and traders; to even some more respectable smugglers and pirate clans. With each successful mission, their reputation grew, and their fleet expanded.

As TONS continued to grow, they faced many challenges economically with the shifting of earths politics, the discovery of Jump Points and other intelligent life out there in the verse. TONS had to rely on their superior skills, tenacity, and resourcefulness to survive and barely made it through the Messer tyrannical rule. But even as they faced these challenges, they continued to operate all across the verse and solidified their place in it.

Today, TONS is a well respected organization in the galaxy but through all their struggles over the centuries they have dwindled in size and scope. They still have a large fleet of ships and operate across the entire spectrum of space-based industries. But are considered more of a mom & pop shop or social club compared to larger organizations. They are known for their professionalism, expertise, and reliability and remaining true to their roots, operating on their own terms and always ready for the next challenge.
