History

What is Talon?

Talon’s a corporate militia with a main focus to provide logistical support to various consumers. Not only does Talon help deliver products but also maintains it’s own security forces in order to protect it against threats whether foreign or domestic.
Talon consists of The 344th “Mourning Woodpeckers” and the 221st “Nighthawks” of the 18th “Talon” Pursuit Group. In 2943 the 18th Pursuit Group was tasked by the UEE Navy to escort a diplomatic mission to the Vanduul.

However, certain elements of the military-industrial complex had no desire for peace, and arranged for mercenaries to destroy the convoy.
Only a handful of Talons managed to survive the ambush.

With the death of the envoys, they had no choice but to return to UEE space in failure. Upon arrival, they were immediately incarcerated for murdering the diplomats. The soldiers escaped a high-security asteroid prison into the Fora underground. From there they were reorganized into a corporate militia where, largely forgotten in the ensuing coverup they operate to this day.

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire Talon.

What are Talon’s Goals?

Talon’s goals are threefold.
First is the defence of the system it operates primarily, this includes regular anti-piracy sweeps and constant vigilance against Vanduul incursions.
Our second goal is to build an economic base through trade and factory building so that we can support our operations within systems we operate in.
Our third and most ambitious goal is to set up a permanent base of operations for our org – either through finding and taking a station or finding a more creative option through game mechanics.

Talon’s Structure

As a corporate militia organisation Talon takes on a three branch structure that allows all of our members to find the duties and responsibilities that suit them best.

TALON’s key organization is broken down into three main “tier 1” branches, each led by a Directorate. The three Directorates assist the Chairman in running the organization at the highest levels. Under each “tier 1” branches, there are two “tier 2” divisions, each led by an Administrator. Below each “tier 2” division is four “tier 3” departments, each led by a Manager.

The “organization layout:

Chairman:

The chairman is the leader of TALON as a whole and holds absolute power which is extended to each Directorate in order to delegate the responsibilities of the organization.

- Corporate Directorate:

The Corporate Directorate, led by Chip, can in many ways be considered the heart of Talon. Focusing on our commercial and logistical duties Corporate seeks to provide the finances to keep the other Directorate’s afloat and to provide the right tool for the job whatever the client may require of us. While Corporate personnel are trained specialists the Directorate encourages cross training with Security disciplines so that should a client’s delivery become endangered, or one of our facilities need protecting Corporate members can step up and defend our clients and service users.

- Commerce Division:

The Commerce Division’s main tasks are to maintain good relations with Talon’s clients and to engage in a variety of operations in order to obtain the finances required to support the Group as a whole. The Commerce Department is also responsible for maintaining Talon Shoreside Facilities, including working with Security to provide a limited Shore Patrol capability. The duties of the Department can generally be seen as falling under the following categories:

+ Contracts and Diplomacy Department
+ Market Research and Free Trade Department
+ Resource Extraction and Processing Department
+ Colony and Station Construction and Maintenance Department

- Logistics Division:

The Logistics Division’s, led by JFK, main task is to keep Talon moving and to help the Corporate and Security Directorates fulfil their contracts. From keeping track of Talon’s bread, bombs and bullets to operating transport vessels and conducting ship repair the Logistics Department is the most varied part of the Corporate Directorate. The duties of the Department can generally be seen as falling under the following categories:

+ Transportation and Cargo Handling Department
+ Ship Maintenance and Logistics Department

The security branch, led by Director Dart Jaeger, is the muscle of Talon, providing the other branches with the means to accomplish their directives and goals, along with deterring and destroying any attackers or pests with extreme prejudice. CorSec will be divided into 2 main divisions, each with their own specific strengths and uses:

+ Support Fleet

(Vacant Command Position) The Support Fleet is composed of our armed light freighters and fringe combat ships that are not designed for direct engagement. They will be used to fill the needs of the current Op.

FAQ

1. How is Talon’s rank structure arranged?

Ranks in order from lowest to highest:

- Associate:

New and enlisted personnel in the “general pool”

- Crewman:

Trained personnel that are designated to one of the three main pools for the “tier 1” branches

- Specialist:

Specialized personnel that are specifically designated to a “tier 3” department as a primary job.

- Manager:

Personnel that are directly responsible and in charge of a “tier 3” department.

- Administrator:

Personnel that are directly responsible and in charge of a “tier 2” division.

- Directorate:

Personnel that are directly responsible and in charge of a “tier 1” branch.

- Chairman:

The leader of TALON as a whole and holds absolute power in regards operations and decisions within the organization.

2. Will you really pay for my ship and upgrades?

The answer most certainly is Yes!! Once the persistent universe is live we at Talon intend to aid in the equipping and maintenance fees for all our members to a certain standard, the downside to this is we take a higher percentage of your mission rewards than other organisations will, however we will make up for this by paying all of our members a salary as well as providing various other benefits.

3. You mention a paycheck, how does this work?

Put bluntly bureaucracy. The command group takes Talon’s profits for the week and divides it into ‘shares’ each rank is valued at a certain number of shares and each person in the fleet gets paid according to the number of shares that they are worth. Since this gives equal pay to two people regardless of their contribution that week we also have the bonus system. A portion of the profit that was taken by the command group earlier is then divided into bonus shares, these are earned through activity participation, completion of training goals and various competitions that we hold among others. This means that people who actively participate end up with more pay than those who do not.

4. These benefits, I bet there is a whole load of reasons I can’t claim them, how do they work?

Our health and death benefits aren’t all that complex, how this works is that a portion of each week’s income is earmarked for the benefits pile. If you get injured or killed you can, should you wish, obtain a portion of this cash to help defer medical expenses funeral costs, etc. You don’t even need to have been on duty at the time of your injury, though more money is available to those who were injured on duty.
