The Seraphim Regiment was established on high moral expectations. No profanity, trolling, or taunting while also striving to treat others, both in unit and outside, better than we would like to be treated ourselves. It’s not simply a trademark; It is a promise that we have kept with our members since our inception. Our growth and player retention bears that fact out. We are who we say we are.
We are bound by a common purpose. To create a unit that has an atmosphere like no other. An atmosphere of respect, edification, and fun. We began as a guild but soon became a family.
We are the fellowship of the Seraphim.
Fellowship: The Seraphim are a group of pilots who actually like to hang out together and they do not need a special night or gimmick to do it. Most nights, a new recruit can find 20-30 people in channels on our private TeamSpeak server. There are always players online playing games, theorycrafting, or just hanging around discussing the most important game of all – life.
Leadership: Many of us have come from units where leadership meant power or prestige. In the Seraphim, leadership means a commitment to encourage and serve those under our watch. Our leadership system is very precisely designed so that no matter how large the unit grows it still runs smoothly. Advancement in leadership is not based on battlefield prowess or popularity; it is based on the ability to serve the needs of subordinates and encourage/equip others to do likewise.
Meetings: Meetings are held nightly Monday – Saturday on our teamspeak server at 8PM CST.
Everyone makes mistakes: We know that. That is why no one calls out another seraphim for a blunder in public. We handle issues like this by confessing our mistakes to one another once the match is over and handle the assessment in a positive way. “Praise in public / critique in private” is our method of leadership. We are here to edify one another (and even our opponents) because, to us, others are more important than self. If someone has a problem with another player, we encourage them to handle it one-on-one in either TeamSpeak or PM. We take Matthew 18:15 very seriously.
Fellowship: The Seraphim Regiment was the first Christian guild in Mechwarrior Online and we are excited to extend our efforts into Star Citizen, as such, we take our commitment to our Code of Honor very seriously. With over 170 mechwarriors on base and 40+ star citizens in the hangar, we have found that many others find this kind of respectful environment to be beneficial as well.
Family Oriented: Some of us pilot our ships with our speakers on and our children in the room. We are strict on our comm rules because no child should have his or her innocence tarnished by someone playing a game. We are strict on our trolling / taunting stance as well for much the same reason. We want to be the examples that our children would emulate.
The Seraphim Code of Honor is the heart of who we are … it is the DNA of our unit. Every time we reach out to new recruits, train new leaders, and form new divisions within our clan, it is with the idea of strengthening and expanding the Code of Honor to others.
We place this first because this Code will either make or break a new member in our unit.
Refusal to accept and carry out this Code bars entry into our ranks.
Violating this code will result in slower promotions, reductions in rank, and eventually, dishonorable discharge from the unit.
Yes, we take the Seraphim Code of Honor THAT seriously … and we ask that all prospective members do as well.
So what is the code?
It does not matter the time or place, profanity and off-color remarks have no place here among us.
“But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.” 2 Timothy 2:16 (NKJV)We do not allow it. We run a private Discord server just so we can avoid it.
“If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.” James 1:26 (NKJV)Most of us have to endure endless hours of profanity in the workplace every day. The Seraphim was designed to give ourselves a quiet, comfortable place to game the way we choose to game …. in peace and brotherhood.
“My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. “See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?” James 3:1-11 (NKJV)NOTE: The word perfect here means “mature” … so, according to Scripture, the ability to bridle our tongue is a true test of our maturity as Christian men, therefore, it is commendable and to be aspired to.
Any member heard using or typing things that are profane of inappropriate will be spoken to on the spot (other consequences will include private counseling and/or reduction in rank). When being addressed regarding this violation, the attitude and spirit that is displayed by the offending party will play a large part in determining the consequences … the penitent man shall pass…
We do not allow voice or text taunting or trolling of other players in game or out. We do not condone such childish behavior.
Prospective members who like to engage in making taunts and throwing jabs at the other team, verbally or through text chat, need not apply.
Any member caught doing this will be called out verbally on the spot (public reprimand in game channel).
“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil. Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:26-32 (NKJV)There is nothing wrong with an honest discussion that brings up opposing ideas. We tend to avoid political discussions. The leadership of the Seraphim notice members who bring up arguments and introduce discord into the unit. Members who violate this principle will be counseled privately and given a chance to mend their ways.
“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.” 2 Timothy 2: 20-26 (NKJV)Our core belief is that everyone in the unit is more important than I (self) am. With that being the case, it is very easy to spot someone who is struggling in this area. Most times, Seraphim members will drop into each TeamSpeak channel to greet fellow members and to tell them goodbye. It is part of what defines who we are.
“Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” Phillipians 2: 1-4 (NKJV)There are no “star” players in our unit, nor those who play or talk like one. No one seeks to elevate themselves above the others. It is OK to say the occasional “Did you see what I just did?” but, if it is said after every match, it gets more than a little annoying.
“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge and discretion. The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.” — Proverbs 8:12-13 (NKJV) “When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.” — Proverbs 11:2 (NKJV) “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.” — Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV)Team Killing (added on March 21, 2014)
Team Killing is NEVER accepted among the members of the Seraphim. Yes, there will be accidental TKs just as there is friendly fire in real combat situations … that is not the issue.
The issue of team killing is outlined as “purposely firing on a Seraphim or non-Seraphim teammate in an attempt to wreck the gaming experience of the victim (the victim’s mech does not have to be destroyed for it to qualify as team killing).”
Team Killing expresses the idea that the Team Killer’s enjoyment is more important than another player (which is a total violation of the Seraphim Code of Honor) and that venting personal frustration is more important than a win for the team.
This behavior, once reported, will warrant the offending party’s removal from the unit.
No Acts of Piracy (added Nov 11th, 2017)
This includes, but is not limited to:
1) Drug smuggling/use.
2) Slavery/slave trading.
3) Selling information in order to damage someone else.
4) Attacking innocents without reason.
By our definition piracy is the opposite of what we stand for: which is to protect the innocent.
We abide by UEE law until the law goes against our code.
