“Nothing but an ol’ harbor hound.”
The exact origins of the Longshore Space™ organization is a quandary which branches into several degrees of separation from its historical figures and sources. It is understood to have begun as a nondescript general labor company securing referrals, contracts, and pensions for the average dockworker.
Following some leads into Longshore’s roots would turn up a handful of individuals; many of whom can be found at shipyards clocking in the classic unimaginative graveyard shift, hopelessly sorting the endless sea of incoming and outgoing cargo containers with heavy machine-assisted precision.
When considering the sort of salary that a typical “longshoreman” might make, especially compared to those they’re employed by, it would be a reasonable assertion to say these men cannot afford much, if any affluence. Certainly, a simple dockworker could not finance a respectable ship of his own, and neither a crew.
They spend most of their time in freight elevators and warehouses at port. Perhaps also then, too much downtime wasted loading up on drinks at the local dive bar, only to gamble away the last of that week’s check on MobiScratch® the next morning. And this might bring attention towards how such unassuming folk share surprisingly deep connections to various well-funded lobby groups and shell companies.

Further investigation would reveal the establishment of a young subsidiary, circa 2945, nested in the over-encumbering corporate hegemony of the Stanton System. A decent place to obfuscate the books, one might argue. Longshore Space, Jackboot & Longshore, Longshore Pilots, Longjack, each an alias for essentially the same entity.
Starting out as a union clad retainment program, the company in this year had quietly entered the theater of legitimized organizations within Stanton’s internal registries. It sought to provide alternative benefits and incentives for harbor workers. A network which gave a voice for those that toiled at the deposition of cargo that wanted for better opportunities.

The Longshore Space of today has adopted a slightly broader scope to accompany its approaching ten year membership goals. After a successful series of sponsorships, such as the tentative arrival of an in-house quantum motorworks enthusiast garage, or the chartering of an Odyssey-class deep space ice trawler; the organization has shifted its horizon toward the process of partnering with an independent pilot association.
Longshore Space may have started in the creaking depths of a derelict freight elevator, but it will not end there. Many longshoremen who start their careers stacking shipping containers for ‘the man’ can graduate to stacking credits for themselves. If your dream is to earn your own ship and fly independently, look no further. Longshore Space will sponsor you.
And the good news is, they’re also hiring.
