We are The Lobster. We identify as a Pod of Nomadic Semi-Autonomous Mutualists. We are committed to leaving behind better environments than we find. We are hunters of relics and eaters of the bones of those long-forgotten. Out in space is the newest Benthic zone. Join the Pod and become The Lobster.

History

The Lobster’s territory is traditionally the bottom of the ocean, known as The Benthic Zone. The name comes from the Ancient Greek word βένθος (bénthos), meaning “the depths”. Organisms here generally live within close relationships with the substrate, and many are permanently attached to the bottom. In a fashion akin to metaphorical contexts, the depths of space are an ocean where you can never touch the bottom, reach a goal, or see the end. An infinite abyss and abstract in its offerings where there is nothing except the cold environment of death all around you. Although life persists. Planets are the new benthic zones. War-ravaged wrecks await and amass at any and all reaches of the depths of space. Sunk and dead and gone, but alive still. Alive with the organisms that feed off the carcasses of the long gone. Here is where you will find The Lobster. Comfortable in its environment and relentless in its pursuit of the same thing that drives us all: self-preservation.

The Lobster was created in 2954 and has grown steadily since its founding. The spirit of the Pod is to remain nomadic and continue to explore and clean. Lobster members are individualistic, and all grow in rank over time. Their roles vary within communication channels as space, like the depths of the sea, is an ever-changing flux of constantly initiating obstacles, problems, and complexities.

Manifesto

An Introduction to the Pod

As we participate in this Universe, so do we take the parts of a mutual system. A system of parts combined is a structure. As we become whole, we realize we embody that of The Lobster. Designated below are the parts of the system.

A. Reclaimer/MOLE/Starfarer CPTs become Lobster Body.
B. Vulture/Prospector CPTs become Lobster Claw.
C. Cargo/SRV/MPUV CPTs become Lobster Tail.
D. Fighter defense/Escort ships are Lobster Eyes.
E. Long-range scanners/fighters become Lobster Antennae.
F. Deckhands in all varieties are Lobster Legs.
G. Contracted Associates will be known as The Tide.

Goals of the Pod:
As mutualists, we are dependent on information, safety, and resources.
A. Good reliable information about the intel of a planet, prospects of its wreck sights, and the comings and goings of larger forces is highly valuable. Antennae will always play a role in gathering this information. Should any member of the Pod wish to spearhead being an antennae, they may step forth at any time. Antennae will also be interceptors for quick evacuation of any dispatched Body, Tail, Claw, and Eye.
B. Defense and defensive postures are the keys to survival for the Pod. We are not an attacking force, we are not assassins, and we do not go between opposing forces and play sides. Should the Pod come under attack Legs should man Battle Stations of their respective vessel. CPTs should do their best to protect their crew and their Pod mates. That said, drawing into tighter formations to form a massive body for concentrated fire would be ideal. This will take practice. Eyes have a free range here, and they must make contact at the most challenging friction points and absolutely annihilate enemy contacts to preserve the Pod. Any member of the Pod who wishes to step forward and become an Eye may do so. When you claim this status, your role will be changed.
C. Resources come in many forms. The best way to take on resource gathering is to group it into the mutualist bond called The Pod. In the Lobster world, a group of Lobsters is known as a Pod. A Pod can clean environments of persistent trash, overly bulky rocks, and leftover garbage. Trash is our Platinum. Leftovers are our Premium. No amount of gathering should be viewed as unworthy. In a game sense, we are cleaning a server of its data so that we might function in a cleaner environment. However, the Pod cannot always be a group. Therefore, should others collect resources in their own way, so be it. Remember though. The Pod is most robust and most productive when we work together.

Resource management is a key aspect of our strategy. It’s important to note that breaking certain habits will only benefit the Pod in the long run. Therefore, taking care of your own inventory and your ship should remain a constant objective when working within the Pod.
A. Park and store your ships when you aren’t using them. This practice will make you a better pilot for finer precision work while flying, and it will also construct the idea that your ship is valuable. We want to avoid the insurance fraud loop. It is a weakness of the game, and it shouldn’t be exploited.
B. Retain personal resources at all times. Bring a bag full of food, water, an MT, MT attachments, and other weaponry. The repair gun and the larger tractor will become more valuable when tricky situations arise that need critical thinking to solve. The main point is that if you can take care of yourself, others can rely more on you for other tasks.
C. Should there be an instance of doubt on a resource collection that may put the Pod at risk, then avoid solo-ing unless the Pod agrees it is worth it. Flying into danger zones while battles are ongoing or knowing that an area is haunted by thieves or pirates is not worth dying over.

Org ranks and roles are based on time spent working with the Pod (every six months), whether you bring friends or more folks into the Pod, and whether you promote the Pod in other spaces outside of it. Everyone is a Pincer as a member.

How a Lobster Pod Works

  • This is a casual group. And to add on to that this is a mutualist pact. Please don’t get mad at another player for lack of understanding or ability to relate to one another.
  • If you must bring up anything in conversation such as politics or religion please keep it civil. IRL is already complicated enough. We don’t need our Star Citizen to become shadows and dust.
  • No discrimination based on sex, gender, orientation, race, culture, ethnicity, or region of the planet.
  • Embrace your inner lobster. Be as weird and fun as you like.
  • There isn’t a hierarchy here. Just like in real life: no one is really in charge. However, guiding one another and helping each other, and teamwork is key to overcoming obstacles in this game. Bugs creep up and block play styles sometimes. Try to overcome these limitations. We have already got a good thing with just a small amount of people right now.
  • Ranks are time based. Mutuality means we are essentially all the same. Just here to help each other when the time permits.
  • Discord rolls can be found in the Manifesto.
  • The Lobster is by nature against greed, bug loops, and other forms of irresponsibility that you would generally not perform in a simulator. We do not abuse the insurance loop, dupe, troll for amusement, or grief. The Ganglia reserves the right to snip its own chitin should such elements arise. If you find yourself removed in such a manner that just means that your playstyle is not conducive to The Lobster. You must find your own way.
