Est. 3000 BC
By the 6th century BC, widespread social unrest led to the reforms of Solon. These would pave the way for the eventual introduction of democracy by Cleisthenes in 508 BC. Athens had by this time become a significant naval power with a large fleet, and helped the rebellion of the Ionian cities against Persian rule. In the ensuing Greco-Persian Wars Athens, together with Sparta, led the coalition of Greek states that would eventually repel the Persians, defeating them decisively at Marathon in 490 BC, and crucially at Salamis in 480 BC.
The decades that followed became known as the Golden Age of Athenian democracy, during which time Athens became the leading city of Ancient Greece, with its cultural achievements laying the foundations for Western civilization. The playwrights Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides flourished in Athens during this time, as did the historians Herodotus and Thucydides, the physician Hippocrates, and the philosopher Socrates. Guided by Pericles, who promoted the arts and fostered democracy, Athens embarked on an ambitious building program that saw the construction of the Acropolis of Athens (including the Parthenon), as well as empire-building via the Delian League.
We can now take the rich history of Hellas and Athens, along with all it has provided mankind and use some of the same ideologies they had employed all those many thousands of years ago in order to project us far into space, conquering and defending, to forge a new Athens among the stars.
OPERATIONAL POLICIES
Our intent is to seek out profitable space, secure, patrol, and ultimately, maintain that space. The citizens of Athens will then be free to operate and do what they please. However, all members of Athens will be expected to be able to fight and wage war in some capacity. For all citizens of Athens fight for a united cause.
Athens is a open forum, welcoming people from all walks of life. In the understanding that many perspectives are always more valuable than one single persons perspective, and through discussion often the best outcome can be met. All citizens of Athens will be free to interact in industry, commerce, and trade. This will ultimately be the infrastructure we will be fighting to protect in order for all Athenian citizens to enjoy the comforts and luxuries that wealth brings with it.
Wisdom and War is our credo. Only the citizen that says they have much more to learn will continue to learn at a rapid rate. This applies to any task or endeavor. This ideology is the structural foundation of excellence. In Athens we strive for this type of excellence which manifests itself in continual learning, philosophy, wisdom, combined knowledge, and tactical ingenuity. Our military will be the primary focus as that is the front line of our projection of power and will. The rest of our non military successes will be a secondary consequence of our military might, much like every other empire or kingdom in any period of time all throughout history.
If you are meant to be a son or daughter of Athens, we expect common courtesy of other Athenians. Humanity is something that we all have and it must be respected.
- Exploits in game are considered offenses against Athens and our reputation. If you abuse them and you are caught you will be ostracized.
- All other game mechanics including piracy are tolerated so long as they are not detrimental to Athens or other Athenian citizens in any way, shape, or form. (In other words, check in with leadership before doing something stupid)
