We reach beyond the stars in pursuit of exploration, adventure, and discovery.
History
We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained, and new rights to be won, and they must be won and used for the progress of all people. For space science, like nuclear science and all technology, has no conscience of its own. Whether it will become a force for good or ill depends on us, and only if Astradev occupies a position of pre-eminence can we help decide whether this new ocean will be a sea of peace or a new terrifying theater of war.
We do not say that we should or will go unprotected against the hostile misuse of space any more than we go unprotected against the hostile use of land or sea, but we do say that space can be explored and mastered without feeding the fires of war, without repeating the mistakes that man has made in extending his writ around this globe of ours. There is no strife, no prejudice, no national conflict in outer space as yet. Its hazards are hostile to us all. Its conquest deserves the best of all mankind, and its opportunity for peaceful cooperation may never come again.
But why, some say, the furthest reaches of the galaxy? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask, why climb the highest mountain? Why, 1027 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why did Rice play Texas? We choose to go to the furthest reaches of the galaxy. We choose to go to the furthest reaches of the galaxy… We choose to go to the furthest reaches of the galaxy in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.

Charter
WE THE PEOPLES OF ASTRADEV DETERMINED
- to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to intelligent life, and
- to reaffirm faith in fundamental rights, in the dignity and worth of the being, in the equal rights of all species and of organizations large and small, and
- to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of galactic law can be maintained, and to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,
AND FOR THESE ENDS
- to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and
- to unite our strength to maintain galactic peace and security, and
- to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and
- to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all species,
HAVE RESOLVED TO COMBINE OUR EFFORTS TO ACCOMPLISH THESE AIMS.
Accordingly, our respective organizations, through representatives assembled, who have exhibited their full powers found to be in good and due form, have agreed to the present Charter of the Astral Development Advocacy and do hereby establish an international organization to be known as the Astral Development Advocacy.
