Elite & Starcitizen idea: Crosspromotion & stoping the flamewar

Hi everybody,

Since this is kind of the big rebirth of "space sims" I though maybe Roberts & Braben could do something together,
maybe a crosspromo
or
maybe even a videointerview together about the return, their common goals, what they do different and stuff like that.
Could be a good article for a game magazin maybe.

Would also help to stop those silly forum wars.

Space sims for everybody!

    nah. Competition is good.

We can't help it if the ED people are feeling inadequate.

They did a few videos together during the early days.

I think both now have gone in different directions.

Elite has the markings of a publisher / investor driven game.

Star Citizen has the markings of a crowd funded game.

Right now - while both are looking awesome and both will sap my time - think it's best they just cruise on by their own merry ways.

This. A few loud people making it sound like there's a conflict when really many of us are just happy to see space sims reawaken from some classic giants.

I'm a backer for both. There are things that I like in both games that the other doesn't have
Around 75% of my posts are from an iPhone / iPad and auto-correct stinks. So my spelling and grammar probably stink as well.

it's not just rabid ED fans, but SC as well. I don't understand all the animosity between fans. It should be something to rejoice over. Heck, I threw a small space sim party at my house...by myself. I said it was small!!

While OP's intentions are good, unfortunately some folks need to rage.

The people who are getting butthurt and having fanboy freak outs about SC/ED will just find another reason to rage at each other.

Just try to keep in mind that the communities of both games (which have a huge overlap) are, on the whole, more mature than that.

Yeah, I really don't know what else they could do now. v_v I just wish the vocal minority on both sides could enjoy both games and shoosh.

Whenever I try to post some sense in the youtube wars, rabid Elite fans make up features for their game assuring it will be just like SC and more and rabid SC fans who act as if all the features were already implemented. Morons are the problem, not the games or the creators. I don't have cash to back elite right now, but I'll do it in ze future, although only the flying is already radically different in both games, so people should know that the games are not competing but offering different experiences

    thanks for the interviews!

Thought an interview together would not only help stoping the war but it would be good for both games.
Cause it would make headlines and even if the baseline is support both games. it would be good for the genre.

Just wanted to help with this stupid war.

why is it not a good idea? somebody you loves space sims should play both games just as we used to in the 90thies!
Why can we have both no more?

    Yep.
If you can pledge for several ships in SC, I'm sure you can support ED too.
It's the best way to quench your space sim thirst while waiting for proper SC release in 2016.

Elite series have a good history in space sim. Think about it.. Elite:Dangerous is the third sequel since 1984! Elite devs certainly know what they're doing :D

Andd.. here's a letter from Chris Roberts encouraging SC community to support Elite:

When you consider how many people play MMOs you begin to understand quite quickly that it is the minority of fans that make up that games' forum community, and an even smaller more vocal minority that flames and trolls. This has always been the ways of MMOs and I don't really think there's anyway to avoid it. The best thing for everyone concerned is to keep everything in context and not get embroiled or affected by such "flame wars". They are largely inadequate and irrelevant.

i agree.. we have to wait a long time to get a space game and even longer to have one made for the PC.. we should look out for them both and stop lowering the tone...the crap that comes from the fanatics of both these games makes the CoD players look well adjusted...sometime i do think half these trollatics are just children who don't know any better. and if it is an Adult who acts that way then all i can say is SHAME!!! ON!!! YOU!!!

The great thing is that I rarely see any of that on SC forums... Whether it is all "nipped in the bud" by astute moderator/censors, I cannot say, but there really does not seem to be a flame war... LTI blathering is far, far more prevalent.

As a backer of ED, I do feel ashamed of the hatred many seem to possess for anything SC and the names they call Chris Roberts could have been invented by Quentin Tarantino.

Don't read too much negatively into the perceived hatred for ED (or SC for that matter).

Passion means that folks are emotionally charged. Like sports, we are predisposed to "pick a side" and back them, when we care.

I suspect that no one goes to bed fuming because Braben is making a great game, or vice versa. Sparring back and forth is just a way to pass the time until either or both games release.

Give everyone a break, they are just human, and flawed as a result :)

Now, get crackin' on the cross-porno you promised us, OP - I think that will raise some serious bucks! Nothing sells like space porn :)~

I doubt there is a greater concentration of Elite: Dangerous backers than at the CIG offices in Santa Monica, Austin and Manchester... we don't just want to make Star Citizen a success, we want to bring back SPACE SIMS and PC GAMES. Most of us grew up with Elite, and we respect the hell out of what they're doing with Dangerous... and can't wait to play, if we ever get free time. Any competition isn't coming from us!

I really want to +1, but...

Why was AC announced (after 6 months of no dates, and then 2 weeks before the release date) to release the day before ED's P-Beta (a date that was known for over a month)?

Why does CR directly compare SC to ED (with him saying SC is better)? And does so in many interviews, even when not prompted?

They are in the same genre, making comparisons doesn't mean competition. If I were to say my AK-74 is a lot like your AK-47, I am not saying mine is better, I am saying they are similar. And with so many people making those comparisons themselves, its hard NOT to bring it up.
