Guide to checking out other ships/hangars

This will be a quick and easy guide to allow you to see available ship types and hangars you don't normally have access to. There are other guides on the web that are more in depth and will allow other functionality, such as removing/adding parts on the holotable. But doing it this way you will be able to interact with the ship and its currently accessible parts.

First off, if you don't already have it download 7 zip file manager:

http://7-zip.org/

Navigate to the StarCitizen install directory. Default is Libraries>Documents>StarCitizen. Navigate to CitizenClient>Data, within that folder find the Scripts.pak and GameData.pak files. Make a copy of each and put it somewhere safe (Pictures folder works well for me). Now also paste those same files on your desktop for easy navigation.

For Hangar switching; I have the discount hangar so these instructions will be based on switching from discount to business/deluxe. But it should work the other way around.

-Fire up 7zip and find your Desktop folder, C:\Users\UserName\Desktop\

-Double click Gamedata.pak
-Double click GameLayers
-Double click either Business.lyr or Deluxe.lyr and open in notepad (depending on which one you want to experience)
-Select all text (CTRL+A) then copy (CTRL+C). Close that file.
-Double Click Discount.lyr
-Select all text then paste (CTRL+V). Save that file and close it. 7zip will ask if you want to update it in the archive, yes you do. Click ok.
-Now copy the Gamedata.pak file on the desktop and paste it in the StarCitizen>CitizenClient>Data folder. Select "Copy and Replace" option.

Launch the Hangar Module, now you have a shiny new hangar!

For ship switching; I have an Aurora MR as my only ship, so again, this will be based on steps I use. This guide will replace your ship with whichever one you want to switch it with. The new ship will occupy the area in the hangar the old ship was in. This won't have any effect on which ships you have pledged for it's just a way to experience ships you don't own.

-Fire up 7zip and find your Desktop folder, C:\Users\UserName\Desktop\

-Double click Scripts.pak
-Scripts
-Entities
-Vehicles
-Implementations
-XML

From here it is just a matter of renaming the file of the current ship you have.

For example If you have the Aurora MR and want to see the Constellation;
-Right click the RSI_Aurora_MR.xml and rename it 1 and hit enter. This just helps to avoid confusion.
-Right click RSI_Constellation.xml and rename it RSI_Aurora_MR.xml and hit enter.
-Right click 1 and rename it RSI_Constellation.xml and hit enter.
-Close 7zip
-Now copy the Scripts.pak file on the desktop and paste it in the StarCitizen>CitizenClient>Data folder. Select "Copy and Replace" option.

Launch the Hangar Module, now you have a shiny new ship!

To set everything back to normal just paste the backups to the original file that you put somewhere safe (Pictures Folder for me) into the StarCitizen>CitizenClient>Data folder.

As a warning, from my experimenting trying to switch to the RSI_Bengal_Carrier.xml or DefaultVehicle.xml will freeze the Hangar Module. You can even replace your ship with the buggy, Greycat_PTV.xml, but it isn't drive-able.

Have fun! If anyone has any info they would like to share on this subject please do!

Moving to Modding, for now, pending CIG approval or disapproval.

Can I be the first to warn against posting things like this?

I'm pretty certain the poster is just trying to be nice, but how long before someone drops some malicious code in with a bundle like this and some people end up with hijacked accounts?

If I'm being ridiculous then sorry. I just worry about security and all that jazz :)

These instructions are telling you how to edit the game files your self. If the op was posting .pak files and telling you to add then there would be a problem.

Thanks and what a great way to sell more ships! My plan is to earn the Freelancer in game, but i don't know if i'll be able to hold. She's very beautiful once you see her in personal. Vids don't do justice

    Onto the Connie...

You don't have to download anything from anywhere but official sites, which you can prolly checksum? Just don't go downloading stuff off forums and you should be fine :p

They should release a "Dealership Mode" after the sales from the impulse buyers start slowing down.

It's ridiculous that we have to swap models just to see the ships in my opinion.

I personally upgraded from 325A to Freelancer once I saw it in motion. Now I'm buying the 235A as well.

If you still want to dangle a carrot in front of people, make the dealership be open 9-5 during the day. This way people will try the ships, then go crazy when the dealership is closed and buy the pledge :)

Yeah, I think they could get quite a few more upgrades or pledges if they had a showroom.

That's as good a showroom as we can get at this point in time. Thanks for taking the time to post this. Seems I'm not alone in thinking the business hangar looks great, either. :)

Probably will not raise the ire of CIG, they have been really open with us using the files for fun and it's not like you will circumvent anything for the dogfight module.

And don't forget Fridays Most Valuable Post. They are enjoying us playing with it.

    To the OP:
If you open the buggy in the Cry-engine editor "test jungle"you can drive it, If you then switch the XML files you can "fly" your ship.

I can switch out hangars, but not ships, and I'm following the OP exactly.

Everytime I try to switch a ship in, it just loads up blank.

You also have to modify the ship name in the XML to match the ship you're trying to replace.

7zp is just a zip manager, like winzip, rar, whatever you like to use with zip files. The other files are ones downloaded by the hanger module. The hanger module has all the ship and hanger models included, but you only see what you are authorized for.

This is having you modify the XML and file schema to get your hanger module to treat other data as the ship you are authorized for.

    Like this:

Ship 1 = File A (Freelancer, what my purchase is)
Ship 2 = File B (Anvil) I do not have this or see it.

So what this is doing is basically replacing File A with File B so that ship 1 shows what is in File B, Tricking it into thinking Ship 1 (your purchased ship) is actually a different ship.

So all this is done in the Cry3Engine sandbox editor?

Hm. This made me realize that my Aurora is an MR rather than an LX. Is the "Aurora LX Upgrade" not effective in the hangar module?

If you have the upgrade package, it will show up as the base ship. You still have the LX, but the hangar as of yet doesn't recognize it. It's a known issue.

I notice that if I have the deluxe hangar it places the connie where my freelancer was, in a SMALL bay. Anyone know howto change it so it places it in the large area to look at?

I think it just might be in GameData.pak/Libs/DatabaseXML/database.xml. I have not tried toying with it.

Its purely client side and poses no security threat... I think you're referring to someone offering a piece of code (downloadable file).

No. Your hangar type is normally set server-side, so the client goes on thinking it's loading the right hangar size. The result is the Constellation running right through the walls of the Discount and Business Hangars.

No harm done, though, you can still manually switch to a Deluxe hangar and take it for a spin.

I just tried this, replacing the normal Hornet with the Super Hornet.
I did get the Super Hornet Hull, but still with the Cargo Module, not with the turret.
I'll try to see what else I'll have to change so that i can see the ship in it's full glory :)

Just tried it, and it works GREAT !

The walkaround, and climbing into the cockpit all but sold me on a ship I haven't purchased. This REALLY should be an option in the actual game.

...Just remember to put your backup files back to their original places before the next patch, or you may be d/l'ing the entire game again.

An easy workaround to this I found is Just setting the hangar to 'business'. The business hangar is just one large slot even for fighters so it is preferable for viewing larger craft.

I am finding no weapons, engines or power plants are registering though, I am going to go buy a few guns just to see if they show up in the invent. lol.

(edit): Buying additional guns works with ships, let's hope CIG makes other gear purchasable via voyager direct during the dog-fighting module :)
